News Release: Memorial Event set at Whippoorwill Academy and Village in
Ferguson, NC

A Memorial Event will be held at Whippoorwill Academy and Village on Sunday,
May 25 th at 3:00 p.m. There will be a dedication for the statue of the Battle Field
Cross at the flag area. Seth Marley, an Eagle scout who attends West Wilkes High,
raised money for this statue as his Eagle scout project. Scouts will be present to
perform a flag ceremony. Tom Mitchell, a Marine veteran will speak briefly.
Bugler, Mark Adams will be playing. Two veterans, Tim Walsh and RC Stamper will
be awarded Quilts of Valor. Guests are invited to bring photos of a loved one who
served our country to be placed on a memorial table that will be set up on the
porch of tom Dooley cabin. Following the event, refreshments will be served and
musicians are invited to play at the pickin’ porch.
Thanks to the Wilkes Community Horticulture Department for donating the
flowers that are planted around the flags and the statue.
Whippoorwill Academy and Village is a non-profit organization that celebrates
